About the Designer
Arco Floor Lamp designers, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, are among the greatest names of mid-century modern furniture design. A duo of Italian designers and architects, both were sons of another luminary of Italian architecture Giannino Castiglioni. Both Achile and Pier Giacomo studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano where they later worked as teachers as well. Their work together has greatly productive and innovative, coming up with designs that were often radical and whimsical.
Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni drew their inspiration for the Arco Floor Lamp from something we all see every day: a streetlight lamp. The Castiglioni brothers always proud themselves of finding and using commercially available parts to bring their inspirations and ideas come alive, and they started to design a floor lamp like no one had seen in terms of appeal and technology. Functional, beautiful and unobtrusive, Arco Floor Lamp was finished with a Carrara Marble Base, which would allow the floor lamp to take up less space instead of taking over any room it illuminated.
How does the shade fit into the Arco Lamp?
The shade hangs over the fixture in which the bulb goes into. It also moves around quite easily. The shade is actually in 2 pieces. The piece that fits over the bulb receptacle has round holes all over it, then a solid part of the shade fits down over and around that piece.
