We Are Awesome Folow Us

We love the minimalist forms and exquisitely refined details of our Barcelona Chair, the top star of our Barcelona Collection and our Best Sellers. With this high-quality reproduction, we tried to pay homage to the original designer by staying true to the extraordinary level of visual harmony and high-quality manufacturing process and materials.

The Barcelona Chair was originally designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich in the mid 19th century. The resulting chair was the influence behind our state-of-the-art replica. In the spirit of transparency, we’ve decided to share our Barcelona Chair manufacturing process in 7 basic steps.

The 7 Basic Steps of Making a Barcelona Chair

Barcelona Chair

Our Barcelona Chair Replica is mostly comprised of stainless steel flat strips that we weld together to form a strong frame. We use stainless steel to ensure that your Barcelona Chair survives many years of use. The Stainless steel we use is an alloy of iron and carbon, with a minimum of 10.5% chromium. It is resistant to rust and corrosion, making it ideal for the manufacture of high-quality Barcelona Chairs replicas.

Step One

After we choose the best quality stainless steel. The steel flat strips that will later form the ‘sides’ are put through a set of rollers. This gives each frame its distinctive curve. The final set of the roller is adjustable and it is offset to form the curve of the Barcelona Chair scissors legs.

Step Two

We cut the frames, now curved, to the correct length, using a machine hacksaw. We do it this way to ensure that we remove the remaining flat part of the material.

Step Three

We finish the ‘cut’ curved frame surfaces by hand, removing burrs and rough edges. We do this to ensure that the steel is smooth and ready for further grinding.

Step Four

We use a machine grinder to remove rough edges, along the lengths of each curved piece of steel.

Step Five

We set up the curved pieces of steel that form the sides of the Barcelona Chair in a jig and weld them together. We also weld the cross pieces and the two side frames to form the sturdy completed frame of the Barcelona Chair. We do all this by hand, to ensure we achieve a perfect surface finish.

Step Six

We work on each cushion of our Barcelona Chair replica. Forty individual pieces of leather are cut individually to size. We use buttons to hold the patchwork of leather squares together. The piping between each button is also composed of separate pieces. These buttons are hand-stitched in position.

Step Seven

After the final assembly and quality checks, our Barcelona Chair replica is ready for distribution to the customer.

And there you have it! The simple, 6 basic steps process of making our Barcelona Chair replica!
