Barcelona Chair

Originally from Germany, Mies van der Rohe designed amazing works in Europe and served in leading positions in the Deutscher Werkbund and then in Bauhaus from 1930 until 1933 when it closed.

Once he immigrated to America, Mies van der Rohe also designed the Illinois Institute of Technology in which he served as Director in 1938 and the famous Seagram Building in New York.

The Barcelona Collection: His Master Work

The pieces in the Barcelona Collection: the Barcelona Chair, the Barcelona Day Bed, the Barcelona Table and Barcelona Sofa were pieces of the German Pavilion in the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition where they became instantly famous.

To this day, the German Pavilion of the Barcelona International Exposition is considered to be one of Mies van Der Rohe masterworks. Due to its simplicity, its spatial concept and its wise use of structures and materials, the Barcelona Collection made the German pavilion into the quintessential piece of mid-century modern furniture design and architecture.
