We Are Awesome Folow Us

This week’s modern icon is the Womb Chair, designed by Eero Saarinen in 1948. Many mid century modern icon design pieces emerged from the friendship and collaboration between Eero and Florence Knoll. One of these iconic furniture pieces was the renowned Womb Chair. This womb shaped chair consists of a molded fiberglass shell covered in foam. The cushions on the seat, back and ottoman are separate pieces, making the design highly comfortable.

For those of you who only know his name as a popular crossword puzzle answer, Eero was an architect and an industrial designer who was part of the Modernist movement.

The womb shaped chair only originated after Florence Knoll told Saarinen her desire for a chair she “could curl up in, like a basket of pillows.” Here you can see a hot fuchsia Womb Chair reproduction used as an accent chair paired with Saarine’s iconic tulip table.

Although great for curling up in, a pair of bright and bold blue Womb Chairs are also great for relaxed conversation. Being highly comfortable, yet striking and contemporary,  this piece is also perfect for a therapist’s office and VIP airport waiting rooms, spas and contemporary offices.

In our humble opinion, one of the attributes of this chair and ottoman that makes it so awesome is the bright color options. This hot red pair shown above in front of a bookshelf is dreamy. Even if this chair is ideal for the living room, due to its adaptability, it can be used in every room, including the library, home office or bedroom.
