We Are Awesome Folow Us

Renowned Finnish/American designer Eero Saarinen came up with the iconic Womb Chair back in 1948. This was thanks to Florence Knoll’s request of coming up with a comfortable chair that was “like a great big basket of pillows, that I can curl up in”. And that’s exactly what he did, bringing up her worlds to life.

According to Saarinen, “I designed the Womb Chair… to take the place of the old overstuffed chair. Today, more than ever before, we need to relax.” Always eager to experiment and innovate, he explored creating a chair that would me comfy via its shape instead of cushioning depth.  And it’s just what he did!

Just like other of his iconic furniture items, Saarinen’s enveloping chair has grown into a loved and recognizable addition that has made multiple appearances across the big screen, starting with ‘Rear Window’ in 1954.
